An offer to help write submissions
For whatever its worth, a humble offer to help you write a submission, regardless of your views and ideology.
Due to everything going on this week, I think an out-of-cycle article could help me process and hopefully, inspire as many of us as possible to engage with this government more effectively.
The collective anxiety, stress, and anger are palpable. We are all dealing with the upcoming Budget 2024 announcements, upcoming protests, ongoing public service cuts, and tensions over Te Tiriti-related bills, of which there are a few; the political and social hamster wheel seems relentless and spinning a tad out of control. Globally, the wars in Ukraine and Gaza and the democratic movements unfolding internationally weigh heavily on our minds. The upcoming elections in the USA and Mexico have high stakes for my Mexican whanau.
On a personal note, I am doing my best to stay calm, informed, and engaged. I spend hours reading, writing submissions, and trying to disconnect when possible. Yet, this week, my anxiety has reached new heights. Despite the privilege of being in my PhD bubble, I am acutely aware of our collective mood, job losses, and rising costs of everything.
To be helpful rather than just complaining, I want to offer my support to anyone struggling to navigate the complex process of writing submissions for the numerous pieces of legislation currently open for feedback. No matter your stance, I am happy to provide a neutral and friendly hand to encourage and assist you in making your voice heard.
Writting submission, understanding the changes and finding the relevant info is daunting and time-consuming, but you don’t have to figure it out alone. Leave me a comment here, reach out on my private Instagram DMs if you want it to remain private or flick me an email to natalia.albertllorente@vuw.ac.nz. I'm happy to just chat, help write the submission, walk you through it, or provide whatever support you want. Together, we can ensure that our voices are heard and our individual submissions are considered and impactful.
You can find a list of the current bills open for consultation on the Parliament website.
Kia kaha e tu whanau. We are in this together, and you are not alone.
